Alleged abuser refused bail

Mark Roberts appeared before Magistrate Priya Beharry at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court yesterday, charged with physically abusing Stacy De Freitas.
According to the prosecution, the defendant and De Freitas were in a close relationship.
The prosecution further stated that the relationship ended due to the constant assaults inflicted on the virtual complainant by Roberts.
It was noted that on August 24 last, Roberts tried to rekindle the relationship with De Freitas, and she refused.
This allegedly led Roberts to become enraged and threaten to shoot her. The prosecutor told the court that bail should not be granted for fear that the accused may further harass De Freitas. The prosecutor added that the seriousness was another reason why bail should not be considered.
Roberts was remanded to prison until September 28.
