Sans Souci Jaguars S.C defeated Good Success S.C by four runs to win the feature 40 overs cricket match sponsored by overseas based Guyanese Krishna Persaud, played at the Wakenaam Community Centre Ground in Good Success.
In a game which was reduced to 30 overs the Jaguars won the toss and elected to bat on a two paced track. Two early dismissals, Varouni Sasepaul (2) and Charles Benjamin (05) reduced the Jaguars to 10 – 2 in 2 overs. Tulsieram Ramadeen and Vickram Ramnarine then took the score to 32 in 8 overs before Ramnarine was removed by off spinner Nazeer Mohamed for 16. Javed Khan then joined Ramadeen and with sensible batting the two posted a 4th wicket partnership of 40. Ramnarine was especially severe on the short balls and brought up his half century with consecutive fours through extra cover. He eventually departed for 52 which included 8 glorious fours.
Left arm spinner Imran Khan then accounted for Dellon Osborne (01) while leg spinner Krishna Persaud bowled Sherwin Saffa for 14, shortly before Naresh Persaud (03) was run out as the Jaguars lost three wickets for 18 runs. Khan posted an unbeaten 25 while former Essequibo U-15 player, Nokta Moses, finished unbeaten on 7 for a total of 164-8 when their allotted overs ran out. Imran Khan (2-29 off 6 overs) was the pick of the bowlers for the home team while Mohamed, Youganand Balgobin, Chandreka Ragnauth and Persaud finished with one wicket apiece.
Good Success began their reply disastrously when Wazir Khan was run out for 6 with the score on 12 in the 3rd over. Ragnauth (02) was brilliantly caught by Moin Khan off Varounie Sasepaul at square leg in the very next over as the home team slipped into further trouble. Manbodh was then sent back, caught at first slip off Sasepaul with the score on 25 in the 5th over.
Nazeer and Samsudeen Mohamed then put together 30 runs for the fourth wicket before Nazeer (16) went to a spectacular catch, inches off the ground, at short mid wicket, off Vickram Ramnarine. Shoaib Ali (02) soon had his stumps disturbed by 14 year old, left arm spinner, Moin Khan, moments before Samsudeen (15) went, caught off Ramnarine (2-30) when the score was 70-6 in the 16th over.
In reply, Imran Khan and Shorab Ali posted a first wicket stance of 60 in 8 overs before Ali was caught at mid wicket off Nokta Moses for 17. Krishna Persaud (03) and Balgobin (04) were soon dismissed as the visitors reasserted themselves. Khan who hit three fours and two sixes in partnership with tail ender, Keddernauth Narain, took the score to 156 in the 29th over. With the host needing another 9 runs from the final over to seal the game, the Jaguars captain, Zaheer Mohamed, entrusted Nokta Moses with the ball.
The ploy worked as Narain fell shortly after hitting the first deliver through cover for a boundary perished in the next over, caught at the mid wicket boundary by Dillon Osborne for 8, handing the match to Sans Souci Jaguars by a close four runs. Khan ended unbeaten on 44 while Sasepaul was the best bowler with figures of 3-25. He received support from Moses (3-26).
At the presentation ceremony Krishna Persaud, who is a member of the Good Success S.C, thanked the teams for participating and encouraged them to continue to take the game seriously. Both teams received trophies.
