Seemingly undaunted by a recent failed bid to secure a spot on the Central Executive arm of the People’s National Congress Reform Dr Richard Van West Charles says that there is a political future for him in Guyana.
According to Dr Van West Charles, he will always be involved in the political processes here.
When asked if he is contemplating branching out and forming his own political party to contest the upcoming general elections, he said that a decision has not been made as yet, but promised to update the media on any decisions taken.
Dr Van West Charles recently returned to Guyana originally to challenge for the party leadership, but in light of Winston Murray’s nomination he withdrew and threw his support and resources behind Murray.
At a recent press briefing Dr Van West Charles had said that while he was overseas he had still remained a resident of Guyana, and over the past 19 years he had been here each year.
He noted that he had tracked on a daily basis what transpired in Guyana and more so with greater intensity over the past five years.
He said too that while he was a Central Executive Member and was in Barbados he traveled to Guyana each month for the Central Executive meetings.
“I am not a stranger to the issues in Guyana,” Dr. Van West Charles stressed
Subsequent to the announcement of the winner of the contest for party leader at the recently concluded Congress, he had flayed the electoral process.
According to Dr Van West Charles, it was worrying that those persons that expected to be delegates were not, but a sore point was the issue of the use of photo identification.
“Until that happens I don’t think that we could say that we have conquered the problems of the electoral process of the party.”
He was adamant that the party need to reach to the stage where it uses photo ID for its elections.
