South and Central Essequibo recorded victories when the Busta Essequibo 50 overs Cricket Festival continued on Sunday with two matches in Zone A.
At Lima, South defeated North by 10 wickets. South won the toss and inserted North on a moist pitch.
Playing for South Essequibo, Guyana U-19 left arm spinner, Anthony Adams picked up 5-13 from 8 overs and found support in Patrick Rooplall (2-15) and Dillon Heyliger (2-17). North Essequibo were reduced to 90 all out in 30 overs. An unbeaten 20 from Elroy Stephney with support from Narendra Bahadur (27) did not help the North Essequibians cause. In reply, South Skipper Norman Federicks then blasted an unbeaten 71 as his team achieved victory in 20 overs ending on 91 without loss.
Meanwhile, at Cavaliers Cricket Ground in Pomeroon, Central Essequibo got the better of the host by 27 runs. Pomeroon won the toss in a game reduced to 30 overs and asked Central to take first strike. Central went on to score 145 all out in 29 overs.
Former national U-19 player Mahindra Persaud contributed 23 while Devin Thakurdeen and Carlos Thornhill took 3 wickets apiece for the home team to rout Pomeroon for 118 in 28 overs. Anthony Persaud top scored with 34 while National U-19 pacer Ronsford Beaton and Kholraj Persaud captured two wickets a piece for Central who will play North in their next game.
Pomeroon will host South in the other match. Both games are slated for Sunday. But even before that match Wakenaam will entertain Leguan while East Bank will host Bartica in Zone B on Saturday.
