Tanzania Water Minister visits Guyana
Tanzania’s Minister of Water and Irrigation, Professor Mark Mwandosya and a team from his Ministry is on a visit to Guyana to “humbly learn” of this country’s water supply system.

Yesterday, Mwandosya and his team met Minister of Water Irfaan Ali and were scheduled to tour the Pouderoyen Water Treatment Plant, West Bank Demerara; the West Ruimveldt Water Treatment Plant in Georgetown; and the Tucville Sewerage facility, also in the capital city. Ali said Guyana was interested in knowing how Tanzania has addressed problems in its water sector which are common to Guyana.
For example, he said Guyana Water Incorporated, which manages the distribution of water throughout the country, is plagued by unsustainable operating costs. Ali said power accounts for 60 percent of operating costs. He pointed out that while some initiatives have been taken to reduce this cost, he was interested in the advice of his Tanzanian counterpart.
The Tanzanian delegation is expected to meet with other high ranking government officials today.
Guyana and Tanzania established diplomatic relations in 1970.
