Rose Hall Town Pepsi created an upset when they defeated favourites Albion Community Centre, in their lair, in the first semi-final of the 2009 Spready’s Bakery Under-19, 50-over Cricket Competition to earn their place in the final of the competition.
In the match which was played at Albion and which was reduced to 20-overs-a-side because of overnight rain, Albion Community Centre won the toss and decided to send in Rose Hall to take first strike.
They were given a good start by former Guyana Under-19 opening batsman Dominic Rickie (17) and Berbice Under-15 allrounder Lloydel Lewis (41) who together put on 48 for the first wicket in 9 overs.
After they slipped to 78 for 3 after 13-overs, Simeon Lawson batting at No. 4 was mainly responsible for Rose Hall adding another 66 runs in the last 7 overs to end at 144 for 6 in their 20 overs with Lawson still there at the end with 41 N.O. (4 fours and 1 six) while Berbice Under-19 player Eon Hooper made 26.
Bowling for Albion, Guyana Under-15 left arm spinner Gudakesh Motie-Kanhai took 2 for 15 from 4 overs and offspinner Hemant Rabindradat 2 for 29 from 3 overs.
When Albion Community Centre started their response they were severely set back in the second over when offspinner Mark Fernandes firstly clean bowled Guyana Under-15 captain Harrinarine Chattergoon for 1 and then had Guyana Under-19 batsman Jonathan Foo caught and bowled for 0 to leave Albion 6 for 2.
Former Berbice Under-15 wicketkeeper batsman Andy Mohan and Berbice Under-19 batsman Manoj Pooranauth then retrieved the situation for Albion by putting on 78 for the 3rd wicket in 10.5 overs but with offspinner Dominic Rickie removing Pooranauth stumped for 35 and Berbice Under-15 left arm spinner Shawn Perreira clean bowling Mohan for 44.
Albion slipped to 92 for 4 after 14 Overs still needing 53 in the last six overs. With the Rose Hall spinners Hooper, Lewis and Rickie on target, it was too tall an order as Albion Community Centre perished for 119 in 19.5 overs.
Bowling for Rose Hall Town Pepsi, Dominic Rickie took 4 for 16 from 4 overs, Lloydel Lewis 2 for 30 from 3 overs and Mark Fernandes 2 for 24 from 3 overs.
