Upper Corentyne through to Final
The Berbice Cricket Board/Poonai’s Pharmacy Under-13 Inter-Zone Two Inning Cricket Competition bowled off on Saturday with the Upper Corentyne Zone becoming the first team to advance to the final of the competition.
In the first semi-final played at the Rose Hall Town Ground, they took first innings points from the Lower Corentyne Zone in the match which ended in a draw.
Lower Corentyne winning the toss and batting first, and with the competition playing under the 60-over maximum-first-innings rule, they closed their first innings at 157 for 7 with Arif Chan top scoring with 36 and Brandon Persaud 31. Bowling for Upper Corentyne offspinner Wadekar Ramrattan took 3 for 20 and offspinner Tameshwar Kumar 2 for 19.
When Upper Corentyne began their response, they were given a start of 94 runs by Rishi Persaud and Viendra Gooniah after which Persaud was run out for 46. Gooniah continued with Askshay Homraj and together they added another 26 before Gooniah was run out for 47.
Fifteen runs later Gooniah fell, caught off offspinner Javed Seecharran for 47 at 135 for 3. Homraj (30 N.O) and Kumar Sirikissoon (10 N.O) saw Upper Corentyne get past the crucial first innings target. They ended at 158 for 3 at which point the match was called off.
