National pacer Trevon Garraway took 5-15 and Essequibo medium pacer Trevor Benn captured 4-5 as East Bank Essequibo defeated Leguan by 33 runs as the Essequibo Busta 50 overs Cricket Festival commenced on Saturday with one match in Zone B.
Played at the Parika Salem ground and in front of a large and colourful crowd which included the former president of the Essequibo Cricket Board Alvin Johnson, home team East Bank batted first and were bowled out for 88 in 33.2 overs. Mark Braithwaite top scored with 19 while former Essequibo U-19 player Yogister Bachan contributed 18 and Michael Goberdan16.
Leg spinner Ramesh Oudit bagged 4-10 while former Essequibo U-19 players Kevin Gordon (2-13) and Hemraj Persaud (2-18) also bowled well for the visitors.
Leguan in their turn at the crease were bundled out for 55 in 24 overs with Garraway who bowled with some pace and Benn doing damage with the ball for the winners. Kevin Gordon was the main scorer for the visitors with 19.
