A fine around performance by Eon Gilkes piloted Dyna’s Bravados to victory over Hillfoot Strikers in the Guyana Softball and Windball Cricket Association (GS&WCA) sponsored 15-15 Tapeball cricket final on Saturday at GS&WCA ground on Carifesta Avenue.
Gikes hit a top score of 25 and returned to take three wickets as Bravados triumphed by 11 runs in a closely fought encounter watched by a fair size crowd.
Batting first, Bravados were restricted from scoring freely due to excellent bowling and ground fielding by the Strikers side.
However, when Gilkes came to the crease he pushed the scoring along, hitting 25 which included one six and one four as his team completed their allotted 15 overs at 95-7.
Avenash Mohabir was the pick of the Strikers bowlers with 2-23.
In reply, Strikers came up against some hostile fast bowling but their captain Lantee Hinds weathered the storm to top score with 26 which included two sixes and two fours.
In the later part of the match when Gilkes was brought on Strikers batters decided to attack his slow bowling and lost wickets as Gilkes finished with 3-12 as Strikers were 84-6 when their overs ran out.
Gilkes was voted Man of the match for his outstanding performance.
Dyna’s Bravado secured the winner’s trophy, $15,000 and 16 medals for winning the tournament while Hillfoot Strikers secured the second place Trophy and $10,000.
Finewood Marketing Inc. claimed the third place Trophy.
Naresh Bagwandin of Strikers was the tournament’s leading wicket taker, while Azim Azeez of Falcons scored the most runs and Lee Davis of Finewood was voted the best all-rounder. Strikers were adjudged the most disciplined team.
