A 17-year-old work study student attached to the National Communications Network (NCN) is thankful to be alive after he was almost electrocuted at the Princess Buddy’s Hotel, East Bank Demerara yesterday afternoon.
Reports reaching this newspaper stated that at around 17:45 hrs, Keon Blade of Diamond, East Bank Demerara was attaching a cable to a metal bar in the pool at the hotel when he was ‘shocked.’
Blade was part of the NCN technical personnel who were making preparations for the video taping of the Guyana Fashion Weekend, which commenced last evening and is scheduled to conclude tomorrow night.
According to an eyewitness, the management of the hotel ran a power cable in the pool in order to attach it to a speaker.
The eyewitness said that while Blade was attaching a cable to the metal bar of the pool to connect it to the camera, he was jolted by electricity.
“He blacked out for like five minutes and then they rushed him to the Georgetown Public Hospital,” an eyewitness told Kaieteur News.
This publication understands from a source at the hospital that Blade suffered no serious injuries, and was ‘up and about’, while one of the managers of the hotel who accompanied him to the institution refused to tell the doctors what occurred.
However, Kaieteur News understands that the management of the hotel has given instructions for the power cable to be removed from the pool with immediate effect.
When this newspaper arrived at the scene approximately fifteen minutes after the incident occurred everyone was busy making final preparations for the event, and it seemed as if nothing drastic occurred.
