Golden Fleece defeated Santos by 7 wickets to win the final of the South Essequibo twenty /20 cricket competition last Sunday at the Suddie Cricket Ground on the Essequibo Coast.
Played in front of a large and colourful crowd, Santos took first strike and were bundled out for 54 in 15 overs. Former national U-19 player Dilon Heyliger made 18 as Thomas Chan captured 3-10, Deolall Rooplall 2-12 and Devanand Madhoo 2-4.
Jeewan Singh then scored an unbeaten 30 as Golden Fleece won the game in 12 overs ending on 55-3. Anthony Adams took 2-12 in a losing cause for Santos.
Golden Fleece collected the winning trophy. Speaking at the presentation ceremony, Coach Forbes Daniels urged the players to take the game seriously and to continue training. He also spoke about the importance of discipline and fitness.
Meanwhile, in the semi-finals which were played on Saturday at the same venue, Golden Fleece overcame United Brothers by 28 runs and Santos defeated Rising Stars by 66 runs.
In Semi-final Scores: Golden Fleece 92 all out in 17 overs (Harrichand Chaitram 20, Javid Azeez 3-15) beat United Brothers 64 all out in 13 overs. (Jermin Trotman 24, Shannon Jagmohan 24, Rabindra Persaud 4-9).
Semi-final II: Santos 98 all out in 15 overs (Dellon Heyliger 30 n.o, Rayan Federicks 2-18) beat Rising Star 32 all out in 10 overs (Anwar Baksh 2-9 , D. Heyliger 2-12).
