Both win semis 1-0 margins
The 2009 Courts Pee Wee Under-11 League champions will be crowned on Thursday at the Banks DIH Thirst ground, Thirst Park and clashing for the title will be defending champions Fruta Conquerors and Santos.
Both teams won their respective semi-final encounters by similar 1-0 margins against Uprising and Renaissance yesterday at the Thirst Park ground.
For Conquerors, their captain and main weapon Ryan ‘Bum Bum’ Hackett did the trick for them in a tight battle against robust opponents, Uprising.
The two sides had to be separated by a well taken penalty in the 17th minute, taken by the captain himself after an Uprising player was guilty of handling the ball in the box.
That apart, it was an even affair, Uprising though, failed to convert many of the chances they created. They turned up the pressure on Conquerors in the final 5 minutes in search of the equalizer but the Fruta lads held their nerves to come out on top.
Santos on the other hand, also found Renaissance a tough nut to crack as they took sweet revenge for their preliminary round loss to Renaissance.
The first half ended with the score 0-0 but 2 minutes after the break, Pernell Roberts sent Santos ahead when he finally breached the air tight defence of Renaissance to not only earn Santos a well deserved win, but a chance to win the championship when they face Conquerors in Thursday’s final.
Renaissance and Uprising will contest the third place game. (Franklin Wilson)
