Kenworth Smith (108) lashed the only century of the day to lead Rangers SC “B” to a comprehensive 113 runs victory over Young Challengers XI, in their second match for the day, when play in the Mike’s Pharmacy 15 overs Countrywide Round Hand Softball cricket competition, organized by the Guyana Softball League, continued at various venues countrywide over the past weekend.
Smith received support from Sunil Boodram (3-22 from 3 overs) to limit Young Challengers to a paltry 58 all out in just 10 overs.
Also on Saturday last, Zeeburg Youths made light work of Uitvlugt Youths, defeating them by 26 runs in their match played on the West Coast. Batting first, Zeeburg Youths scored 73-6 in 10 overs with Chris Persaud (21) leading the batting averages.
In reply, Uitvlugt Youths could only reach 47-6 when their 10 overs had expired. Uitvlugt Youths returned later in the day to defeat Super Street Youths by 47 runs.
The females contested for the Wellwoman trophy in the Linden zone and Coomaka Queens defeated Kara Kara Queens by 6 runs.
The winning team took first strike and amassed 96-4 from 10 overs. Olita Jones (49), from an overall total of 90-4, to emerge best batter. Coomaka Queens returned and routed Kara Kara Queens in 10 overs.
In other matches, Sunrise CC defeated Genesis Girls by 50 runs in the Open category for the Mike’s Pharmacy trophy.
Play continued on Sunday August 16 last, at the Christianburg ground where Victory 14 defeated Sunrise CC by 4 runs. Pacesetters subsequently gained a walkover from Exodus. On the West Watooka Ground, South Star gained a walkover from West Watooka while Uprising SC won similarly over Exodus.
In matches played on the East Bank Demerara, Streetboys X1 defeated Westside Underdogs X1 by 4 wickets. The losing team made amends later in the day, defeating Bent Street X1 by 101 runs. Diamond Superstars X1 also won by walkover after Raiders X1 failed to turn up.
In matches played in the West Coast zone at the Leonora Primary School Ground, Superstreet XI defeated Shattaville by 8 wickets.
The losers returned later in the day and defeated Young Challengers XI by 8 wickets.
In matches played in the Essequibo zone, Reliance SC upset Die Hard XI by 5 wickets. Die Hard XI were inserted and made a competitive 145-4 in 15 overs. Patrick Rooplall (34) was the top scorer while Davenand Chaitram (2-29 from 3 overs) was the pick of the bowlers.
In reply Reliance SC could only reach 146-5 in 14.3 overs.
Action continues today and tomorrow with matches at several venues.
