Dear Editor,
The People’ National Congress Reform (PNCR) 16th Biennial Congress scheduled to be held on Friday 21st August and Saturday 22nd August 2009 is likely to attract the usual national and international attention.
I therefore, wish to congratulate the party on reaching this milestone in its history, despite encountering many turbulent waves over the years. With many of its supporters and Guyanese being victimized for mere association with party; thousands of young Guyanese men murdered, kidnapped and even today, many still missing the party stood firm and focused as it highlighted these many ills in our society.
At a time when the crime wave seem to have consumed the nation the PNCR reminded the nation that the respect for rule of the law remains primary or the paramount pillar, of any true democracy. When the highest decision making forum, the National Assembly, continues to be treated as a stage for the ruling party to play their vicious games the party reminded Guyanese that it is still the business of the Guyanese that matters in any discussion or decisions to be taken in this noble house.
With allegations of; state sponsored killings; torture of citizens by ranks of the Joint Services; discrimination in the work place, among other evils, the party fearlessly, brought these issues to the table and devised tactics and strategies to deal with same. Today, we are witnessing the unraveling of details of a vicious, frightening and dangerous criminal enterprise, as the trial in a New York court continues.
My friends, let us stay focus on the issues that matter most to the party and the people of Guyana as we, in our usual spirited style, address issues raised at Congress. We should be reminded that the “political adventurers” are longing for this weekend to look for and to attempt to inject any kind of mischief geared to satisfy their “political adventurism scheme”. So let’s guard against their devious desires and continue to conduct our business in a manner that reminds all that PNCR, as a party, will always emerge the victor.
There are those who are waiting to have their ego satisfied, as they boast that the party will meet its bottom in these two days. My friends, clearly they don’t seem to know the history of the party as they would be aware that challenges are inherent or inevitable in a dynamic, democratic, and maturing organisation, we have survived every challenge and are prepared for much more. What some advance as destruction we see as construction, our energies and interest will not be weaned, our resilience has been tested time and time over.
Let’s continue to disappoint the adventurers as we to continue to rise to the occasion, our views may vary, and different but our mission to ensure a stronger party is the common, let’s keep this as the focus of our congress as we embark on the business of our party.
Long live the Peoples’ National Congress Reform; long live the People of Guyana.
