Flames completely engulfed the property of 59-year-old Bertram Franklin last night at Wismar, Linden.
The blaze began shortly after 21:00hrs. Franklin, the lone occupant of the small wooden house, located at lot 668 ‘Block 22’ Wismar, had just left his home to go to a neighbour a short distance away to collect a cutlass he had lent that person.
According to reports, the house did not have electricity and the man said that he did not leave on any lanterns, but residents say that Franklin was overheard saying he hoped that he did not leave his stove on before leaving the house.
Residents in the area reported that the fire brigade arrived with little or no water in their tank and had to leave the scene and return at which time the small house had completely burned to the ground.
