Christopher Evans was yesterday refused bail when he appeared before Magistrate Priya Beharry to answer charges of causing death by dangerous driving.
The charges read in court indicated that on Sunday, August 16, at 18:30 hrs, Evans drove motor van GLL 7066, proceeding north along the western side of the Friendship Public Road and suddenly ended up on the eastern side of the road where he collided with motorcycle CF1026, ridden by Albert Pearson. Marlyn Pearson was a pillion rider at the time of the accident. The report dictated that both riders were thrown from the motorcycle and ended up in a nearby trench. They died on the spot.
Representing Evans yesterday, Attorney-at-Law Nigel Hughes emphasized that the accused was never charged with any prior traffic offences and used this among many other arguments to contest a bail objection entered by the Police Prosecution.
The prosecution noted that if bail was granted, Evans’s driver’s license should be suspended.
Bail was however refused and the case was transferred to Providence Court for September 13.
