– Gets 110,000 hits on Youtube
Already owning two Accolade awards for the best male gospel artiste of 2008, Guyanese Eddie Neblett is once again set to hit the spotlight as a four-time nominee for the 2009 music awards.
Known for his infectious hit “Love N Unity” among others, he’s currently in Queens, New York, with Colin Hinds, a member of his management team who is promising much from the Guyanese star.
At present he is performing in New York at various Summer shows, and according to his management team, he has an action-packed agenda there for August and September, which can be viewed in the “events” section on his website www.eddieneblett.org.
Eddie’s management feels that he is one of the most talented, lyrically-positive, individual singer/songwriters out of Guyana in 30 years.
It is believed that he possesses the criteria for worldwide acclaim as his work to date consists of about 20 songs, encompassing every genre, and speaks to positive, conscious issues that resonate with audiences worldwide.
Over the last 8-9 months, Hinds assembled a team, mostly based in USA, which has been working to promote his music to the world.
He says “We have put his music on “www.youtube.com”. Most people accessing and listening to music on youtube.com are based overseas and so far there have been at least 110,000 hits on his music on this site.”
When you cut hair from your head and glue it to your face to look older, and to give yourself a chance to be selected by a construction foreman who previously rejected you for a job, then you know how desperate Eddie was to support his family.
The married father of two was born and raised in Georgetown, Guyana. His mother brought him up in the church and put him in the choir at the age of seven. As a youth, Eddie simultaneously annoyed and entertained everyone by beating incessantly on sticks and cans as he created his own rhythms.
His mom would later urge him to enter and sing in various shows.
One of Eddie’s greatest gifts is creating lyrics on the spot to a track that he likes. As he grew in experience, he soon recorded his first song “We can make it” followed by his breakthrough hit “Love N Unity” with its infectious beat, catchy lyrics, and his now famous trademark, rapid-rap style.
He was asked to sing it at the closing ceremony for the 2008 Caribbean Cultural Festival, Carifesta, as well as at the Rio Summit of Latin American leaders, held in Guyana.
Eddie continued to team up with his band of now eight years, Second Coming, to produce what is his favourite song, “Anointed”.
His major musical influence has been Bob Marley, but his musical talent spans many genres, including reggae, soca and R&B.
He has won numerous awards, but none more prestigious than the two Accolade awards in November 2008 for Best Gospel Artist and Song.
He has performed at shows in Brazil with ‘Second Coming’ and also in Barbados, Suriname, St Lucia, St Vincent and Trinidad & Tobago.
He was featured with the top gospel reggae band, Christafari, while they performed here.
Eddie has done seven videos and appears frequently on local TV as a spokesperson for GT&T. He is also GT&T’s spokesperson and advocate for HIV awareness.
In 2008, Eddie released his compilation album, Prophecies, which features 12 of his original compositions. He is currently working on a new album and is simultaneously performing at numerous concerts/churches in New York City.
Eddie’s vision is to establish a global presence that will reach millions through his music.
MANAGEMENT OPTIMISMS
The comments left on the video clips on www.youtube.com reflect constant surprise by people abroad that music of this quality is coming out of Guyana. Music lovers from Sweden, Germany, Poland, South Africa, Kenya, Spain, Ireland, England, Canada, USA, Jamaica have been contacting Eddie’s management team with positive comments on his music.
Hinds opined that this proves “how much we have progressed in the last say, 3 years.”
Lion of Zion Records based in California has awarded him “New Artist” status with their sub-division Gospel Reggae, which has begun promoting him on gospelreggae.com.
They have built his personal web-page where his music can be purchased online and also downloaded to MP3 players.
Eddie had the pleasure of being called onstage by Mark Mohr, CEO of Lion of Zion and lead singer of Christafari, at the January show at the National Park to perform a song with the band. Mohr also announced the “signing” to the excited fans.
Eddie is cognizant that the world has shifted and believes that the time is now for a change in how people see their role in the world.
He thinks that now is the time to move away from the violent, aggressive lyrics being perpetuated by so many artists and sees himself as “The Conscious Lyricist/Spiritual Artiste”. As such his music will continue to reflect that.
