The Linden leg of the Ministry of Culture Youth and Sport Inter-Block football tournament will kick off today at the Mackenzie Sports Club ground at 6:00pm with a double header.
Coordinator Brian Joseph told Kaieteur Sport that unlike the other areas hosting the Inter-Block tournament, Linden will be somewhat different. He explained that instead of blocks, they have broken the area into its various wards, with teams coming from the various wards for this tournament.
A total 13 Ward teams will contest the tournament, which concludes on September 4 at the MSC ground. Apart from the opening, final and semi-finals at the MSC, games will be contested at two other grounds, the Christianburg and Bayroc Community Centre grounds.
The teams contesting for championship honours are: Amelia’s Ward, Speightland, Valley/Poker Street, Rainbow City/Kara Kara, Blue Berry Hill, Canvas City/Block 22, Watookas/Fairsrust, Silvertown/Scheme, Old England/Coomacka, Wisroc, Cocatara/Retrieve, Christianburg and Half Mile/One Mile, who are the defending champions.
Today’s matches will see Cocatara/Retrieve challenging Christianburg in the opening encounter, while in the nightcap; Watookas/Fairsrust will come up against Silvertown/Scheme. Parliamentary Secretary in the sports ministry, Steve Ninvalle is expected to be on hand for the opening salvo.
Action continues on the 22nd with games at two venues starting at 4:00pm. At the Christianburg ground Valley/Poker Street tackle Rainbow City/Kara Kara, while over at the Bayroc ground, Old England/Coomacka tangle with Wisroc.
