History is set to be created in the Ancient County on Saturday when the Berbice Cricket Board (BCB) hosts the first ever Under-13 tournament, sponsored by Poonai Pharmacy.
The competition, which would be played on an inter-zone basis and starts with two matches on Saturday, would be used by the Junior Selection Committee of the Board to identify an elite 20-man squad for future cricket development.
Matches would be played on a one day two innings format and begins at 10.00 hours. The losers would clash for 3rd place on Monday August 24 while the finals would be held on Tuesday August 25 at the Area “H” ground.
Lower Corentyne led by Arif Chan would clash with Central/Upper Corentyne who would be led by Veinora Gooniah at the Port Mourant ground while the Hakeem Hinds led New Amsterdam/Canje Team would play West Berbice at the Canje ground.
Outstanding individual performers will be rewarded with educational packages.
The four teams, selected by the BCB’s Junior Selection Committee have been holding practice sessions across the county. They are:
