Some city youths who hatched a plan to hit a city bank’s Automated Teller Machine (ATM) and thought that they could get away with it, have landed in hot water with the police.
The youths did not bargain for the surveillance cameras that surround the facility, or maybe they got too careless.
This newspaper understands that while the youths did not obtain any cash from the bank’s ATM in Prashad Nagar, their actions were enough to arouse the suspicion of the entity.
Kaieteur News understands that the surveillance cameras captured two of them entering and leaving the facility several times in quick succession.
It is believed that the youths who reportedly hail from the Bel Air area, were trying to manipulate the machine to enable a cash withdrawal when it became stuck.
The bank upon observing the recording on the camera tapes became suspicious and after obtaining good images of the perpetrators called in the police.
Two of the youths were arrested on Friday morning, and after intense interrogation, they implicated four others, including a female, who they said were a part of the alleged scheme.
They were released on $100,000 bail each as the police seek the advice of the Director of Public Prosecutions.
