Dear Editor,
During the count down to the CARICOM Summit there were massive clean up campaigns in Guyana.
Those indigent ones living on our streets were assembled and taken to homeless shelters. Huge piles of garage located in all corners of Guyana were cleared.
It was beginning to look as if we were in renewed spirit regarding the situation of the terrible state of Guyana.
Now, if we would observe our surroundings, we would see that we are back at square one. Our local markets are in sordid conditions; this could be the reason for many unknown diseases afflicting our people. Beggars sleeping, living, on our road give an appalling image to our foreign friends.
Could our government not only initiate in clean up campaigns when expecting presidents and luminaries from other countries? Shouldn’t we have the pride in keeping our home, our country in a sanitary state whether or not who or what is being held in Guyana?
I do hope these questions are heard and agreed with, so that needed clean up programmes could get back on track in providing a clean and better hygienic Guyana.
