The Cavaliers Sports and Tour Club (CSTC) will take its activities to the Mining town of Linden this morning and Rudolph Mitchell, currently on his 96th victory on the trot, will attempt to add another notch to his gun as he zeroes in on the coveted century target.
Aptly dubbed ‘Clash of the Champions’ the event will coincide with the CSTC 5th Race Walk Month of Activities, currently being held under the theme, ‘Race walking-A Healthy Sport.’
The champion would have to stave off the challenges of Jonathon Fagundes and O’Neil Joseph, two of his fiercest competitors. Jonathon’s father, Maurice has also been putting in good performances recently and is tipped to win the veteran’s category while Donna Ramkissoon is set to retain her dominance on the distaff side. Dennis Burns is also rearing to go in the differently able category.
The walkers would convene at the Wismar End of the Linden Bridge and would be sent on their way at 06:30hrs sharp. The walkers would then proceed along the Winifred Gaskin Highway to the Bayrock Recreational Centre, for the culmination.
The event will attract race walkers from all over the country and organizers are beseeching participants traveling from Georgetown and other far flung areas to assemble at the back gate of the Parliament Buildings at 04:00hrs for the journey to the mining town.
Participants would be grouped into several categories including seniors, juniors, veteran and differently able in both male and female categories. They would compete for trophies and medals donated by the business community.
