Dear Sir,
President Jagdeo in 2006 during the election campaign donated $500,000 to 40 clubs across the nation.
Among the clubs receiving the funds were the Corentyne All Star Football team of which I was once a member.
Shortly after receiving the funds there was a mini revolt among the membership and an individual who was the founder of the club was stripped of all his positions. Members of the club never benefitted from the funding and it is anyone’s guess as to what has become of it.
The Berbice Football Association is aware of the disappearance of the funds and has made this individual persona non-grata in Berbice Football.
Mr. Editor, this is public funds given to youths by a caring President who wanted club officials to use football as a tool to keep our youths out of trouble. Anyone who abuse public funds is committing a fraud and should face the law especially if those funds were meant to serve our country’s most important assets – our youths.
Mr. Editor, as one of those who were unable to benefit from our President’s generosity, I would like to call on the Guyana Football Federation, the office of the President and Mr. Odinga Lumumba to launch an investigation into the funds given to the Corentyne All Star team and find out where are the funds and what was it used for.
If it cannot be accounted for, the necessary legal action should be taken to recover same.
