Opposition’s actions have been carefully choreographed

Dear Editor,
The actions of the main opposition PNCR and others recently, purportedly because of statements being made in the Simels’ trial by himself and witnesses is obviously proceeding according to a prepared script, to once again seek to disrupt normal activity mainly in Georgetown and create the atmosphere and foundation for social upheaval.
Throwing down law books in Parliament is an empty and meaningless gesture. The Opposition Leader should have thrown them down a long time ago when he was a member of the illegal and illegitimate PNC government.
The amazing thing is that most of the main accusations, allegations and assertions were already long in the public domain from 2002 through the media, political commentators, editorials and letter-writers, so there is no real cause for all the dramatic rhetoric and actions, which clearly have been carefully choreographed.
And what wouldn’t some people say to gain refugee status or visas? So why all the fuss now, when since from 2002 all these allegations were made and in the public domain?
This reminds me of the answer Burnham gave when Cheddi Jagan asked him in 1963 what he found objectionable in the Labour Relations Bill which he was then opposing when he had supported it in 1953. Burnham replied that it was not the causa belli, but the casus belli – not the reason for the war, but the occasion for the war.
And this is what the opposition parties and their allies seem to be up to now.
