Police have detained three employees from the Peter’s Hall Neighbourhood Democratic Council (NDC) for allegedly leaving a colleague to die after he was badly injured in a tractor accident.
Police found the body of Freddie Ramlogan, 46, of Pouderoyen, West Bank Demerara, near the western end of the Demerera Harbour Bridge around 21:30 hrs on Monday.
Investigations by police indicate that Ramlogan, who was employed as a labourer with the Peter’s Hall NDC, was injured on Monday night in La Grange, West Bank Demerara, after falling off a tractor.
According to reports, Ramlogan, the driver and three other NDC staff were transporting chairs to Peter’s Hall when Ramlogan fell from the vehicle.
Kaieteur News understands that several residents witnessed the mishap and insisted that Ramlogan’s colleagues take him to a hospital.
“He was still alive because some of the residents said that he was groaning,” a friend told Kaieteur News.
Instead, the men allegedly transported the injured porter to the Demerara Harbour Bridge and left him on the roadside. They reportedly then headed to Peter’s Hall with the furniture.
Ramlogan was still unidentified when police ranks found his body and took it to the West Demerara Regional Hospital, Monday.
However, the deed came to light the following day when Ramlogan, who was seldom absent, failed to turn up for work.
The NDC officials reportedly visited La Grange, where residents told them what had transpired. Kaieteur News was told that the officials questioned Ramlogan’s colleagues and then handed them over to the ranks at the Vreed-en-Hoop Police Station.
