Manager of Medicine Chest Jackie McDonald-Fraser (third left) hands over the cheque to Chelsea Edghill in the presents of her parents and officials of the GTTA yesterday.
Medicine Chest, one of the leading city Pharmacies eased the pain of sponsorship for young Chelsea Edghill when they came forward and covered all expenses for her to participate in upcoming Caribbean Pre-Cadet Table Tennis Championships scheduled for Barbados.
According to Manager of the entity Jackie McDonald- Fraser, the gesture towards the young player is two-fold meaning in addition to ensuring that she gets the opportunity to showcase her skills at the impending event it is also compensation for her outstanding performance at SSEE where she secured a placing to attend Bishop’s High School.
McDonald-Fraser added that the Company’s involvement was aided by her husband’s attachment to the tennis fraternity.
General Secretary of the Guyana Table Tennis Association (GTTA) Godfrey Munroe first extended thanks to Medicine Chest on behalf of the GTTA and then acknowledged the importance of the sponsorship which he said is significant and meaningful, especially in light of the difficulty they usually face soliciting funding.
Munroe said Edghill is an emerging talent with the right discipline and a lot is expected of her.
“This opportunity gives her the chance to match skills with the rest of her peers in the Caribbean and I’m confident that she will do well,” Munroe envisaged.
He disclosed that Medicine Chest has always been a good friend of the GTTA and its offer yesterday was just another act of kindness.
Munroe paid recognition to the collaborative efforts of parents, sponsors and the GTTA who all joined forces in making the tour a reality.
Speaking on behalf of the team, the General Secretary pointed out that they represent some of the more disciplined and talented players and much is expected of them. He added that the tournament seeks to bridge the gap between the Caribbean region and the rest of the world at this level.
Meanwhile, Edghill in her response expressed her gratitude to the sponsor, adding that her training has gone well and she expects some good performances.
Edghill will be making her second appearance at the championships and plans to give an extra effort to reward her sponsor.
The tournament runs from August 16-22.
