Defending Guyana Defence Force (GDF) Inter-Unit Track and Field champions, Defence Headquarters (DHQ) will look to continue their dominance today when the annual rivalry returns to the Base Camp Ayanganna Ground.
The ‘Standing Points’ competition of the championships was completed last week and the ten units will compete in the finals of track and field events today following two days of a rigid trial schedule on Tuesday and Wednesday.
All the finals in the track and field competition will be held today with the champion unit taking home the ultimate prize.
DHQ are expected to launch their missiles and top guns at the opposition in an effort to claim the award.
Kaieteur Sport has learnt that finals will be conducted in the 100m, 200m, 400m, 800m as an invitational race in the 800m for non-GDF athletes has also been set.
There will not be any Invitational 100m race as in previous years.
There will also be the Tug-O-War competition and the senior officers’ races.
The event is usually well supported and the atmosphere one befitting a true competition. The question of who takes bragging rights will be answered.
