Exciting matches highlight latest matches
Cricket fans were treated to several exciting matches when the Mike’s Pharmacy sponsored 15 overs countrywide Round Hand Softball competition, organised by the Guyana Softball League, continued at several venues.
In matches played at the Christianburg ground on Saturday last, in the Under-15 category, Genesis “A” SC defeated Section “B” Warriors by a massive 143 runs. Genesis “A” batted first and scored 187-3 in 10 overs. In reply, Warriors could only manage 44 from 10 overs.
In the other match played later that day, Victory Valley Kings made light work of Mighty Risers to win by 4 wickets. Mighty Risers batted first and scored 97-4 in 10 overs on the back of 36 by Keith Daniels. He got support from Tony Alberts (2-16 in 2 overs). In reply Victory Valley Kings made 98-6 in 10 overs.
Sunrise SC then defeated Blue Berry Hill XI by 11 runs. The winning team made 122-4 in 10 overs, while the losers replied with 111-4 from 10 overs.
Kara Kara Kings defeated West Watooka “A” SC by eight wickets. West Watooka “A” batted first amassing 87-2 in 10 overs. Kara Kara Kings knocked off the required total in 9.5 overs. Said Hussain (35) was the principal scorer.
Other results read- Nottinghamshire SC defeated West Watooka “B” SC by 64 runs, West Watooka SC returned later on and defeated Blue Berry Hill SC by a massive 106 runs, Nottinghamshire defeated Section “C” Warriors by a five wickets, Uitvlugt CC scored 102 and returned to bowl out Ruimzeight for 71 runs.
In the female category, contested for the Wellwoman trophy, Uitvlugt Queens defeated Ruimzeight Girls by 41 runs, while in the Over 40 category for the Wellman trophy Savage Masters XI made light work of Floodlight XI by 98 runs. Also on that day, Shattaville Masters outplayed Rangers Masters by nine wickets.
In matches played in the regular/open category for the Mike’s Pharmacy trophy: Wisrock Pacesetters defeated Victory 14 by 106 runs, while Strike Star XI gained a walkover from Uprising XI.
At the West Watooka ground, Strike Star gained a walkover from Genesis, while Sunrise SC defeated Strike Star XI by three wickets. In matches played in the East Bank zone, in Providence Austin XI defeated Bent Street XI by 112 runs. They returned later in the day to outplay Young Challengers XI by 31 runs.
Bhaiya XI won by walkover after Rapid Fire XI failed to turn up. The following day Street Boys XI also got a walkover from Young Challengers XI. Bent Street also won by walkover after Ghost Riders XI was a no show.
Diamond Superstars XI then defeated Young Challengers by five wickets, while in the West Coast Zone at the Lenora Primary School Ground, Leonora Youths defeated West Side by the rule, which requires the team batting last to overhaul the first team’s total. Leonora Youths batted first and were all out for 75 in 14.3 overs. Underdogs replicated the total but lost nonetheless. Superstreet XI then defeated West Side Underdogs, playing in their second match. Superstreet XI were bowled out for 85 in 13 overs, but in reply, West Side Underdogs could only muster 80 from 14.1 overs. In the lone match played on the East Coast, at the Ogle Ground, Countryside XI made light work of Sleep Inn by seven wickets. Action continues this weekend.
