Two suspected “trunkers” operating in West Berbice were in Police custody last night after they were apprehended following a high-speed chase on the West Berbice highway yesterday afternoon.
The two men, said to be from the East Coast of Demerara, were apprehended by Police who acted quickly in response to a complaint from a resident of Bush Lot Village, West Coast Berbice, that two men in a car had broken into the trunk of his car and had stolen several items. All this happened around 16:00 hours yesterday.
The Police from Fort Wellington Police Station acted quickly and upon noticing their arrival, the men drove off in a vehicle in the direction of Georgetown.
The policemen pursued and eventually cornered the suspects at Number 28 Village, about two miles west of Bush Lot.
A reliable source said that the motor car they used has been impounded and the pair are to be charged with simple larceny some time today.
