An Avon representative appeared before Magistrate Priya Beharry, to answer a charge of fraudulent conversion. On October 6, 2007, Natasha Corbin, a mother of two, after being entrusted with two cell phones owned by a Mr Khan, used the phones for her own purpose and benefit.
The 35-year-old woman pleaded not guilty to the indictable matter, after the Police Prosecutor instituted the Administration of Justice Act, which allows a defendant to make a plea on an indictable matter.
Reports state that the virtual complainant in this matter, Mr. Khan, who was at the time a prisoner at the Brickdam lock-ups, had given the defendant the two cell phones to hold for him until he was released.
Allegations are that Corbin never returned the phones, worth some $60,000.
The defendant was placed on $60,000 bail and is to return to court on November 9.
