A Wismar family was early yesterday morning plunged into mourning, in the height of preparations for a wedding which was scheduled for Saturday, after the groom’s mother accidently tripped over the family dog, and subsequently died.
For the Williamson family, what was expected to be a joyous occasion has now turned out to be a nightmare. Wedding plans have reportedly been set back to make funeral arrangements.
According to the woman’s husband, Kingsley Williamson, his 42-year-old wife, Veronica, was preparing to leave for Georgetown about 4.45 hours with an early bus to buy fish for the wedding, when she accidently tripped on the dog that was lying on the front step.
“I heard the bus blowing, coming through the street, so I tell her girl the bus coming, and I opened the door for her. I inquired whether she had everything and she said yes and picked up her handbag and the bucket for the fish and was hustling down the step, when she stepped on the dog and fell.
“Meanwhile, the bus stopped and still blowing but she couldn’t get up, so her friend that was making the trip with her came out of the bus to see what was happening. Me wife was just groaning, so I lifted her head up, and kind of propped her up with my knee, while we called the ambulance.”
Williamson said the last sound he heard from his wife was a faint hmm, when the paramedic in the ambulance called her name.
She was pronounced dead on arrival at the Linden Hospital complex.
Her eldest son, Leon, who was scheduled to be married on Saturday reportedly “blacked out” when he learnt that his mother had died.
Meanwhile, the dog reportedly disappeared after the unfortunate incident, and has not been seen since.
