‘Big’ John Edwards became Guyana’s second Pan American Gold medalist at the just concluded 7th NAPF North American Regional Powerlifting Championship and 12th NAPF/FESUPO Pan American Powerlifting Championship held in Miami Florida where he captured gold medals in the Men’s Open and Masters M1 categories. Edwards joined Randolph Morgan who had won gold in the Men’s open 82.5 kg 181.5 lbs class. Mervin ‘Spongy’ Moses who was voted as Guyana’s best lifter at the championships had won silver in the Men’s open 75 kg 165 lbs division.
Overall, Guyana won two Pan American Gold (Morgan & Edwards) and one-Silver (Moses). At the Regional Level all the lifters won Gold medals with Edwards also winning the Masters M1 in both categories. Over 200 athletes from 19 countries competed at the championships.
