Albion to battle RHTWSB in Sunday’s final

Rose Hall Town Windies Sports Bar (RHTWSB) will battle Albion on Sunday in the final of the Tenelec 50 overs Berbice first division cricket competition after getting past Police in the 2nd semi-final last Saturday.
On a slow Area ‘H’ ground in Rose Hall Town, the home team batted first and led by an attractive 70 from Khemraj Mahadeo, reached 231-8 in a rain affected game which was reduced to 36 overs per side.
Police were then bowled out for 132 in 35 overs despite a brilliant 89 from Jerry Heyliger as off-spinner Eon Hooper took 4-21 and got support from leg-spinner Shawn Pereira (3-15) to set up the all Corentyne final.
The hosts slipped to 31-7 as Michael Newland, who finished with 3-50 from 8 overs, took two early wickets leaving the RHTWSB top order of Renrick Batson, Delbert Hicks and Troy Sinclair early spectators in the contest. Another wicket left the home team in trouble at 54-4 before Guyana left-hander Assad Fudadin and Mahadeo joined forces in a 44-run 5th wicket stand before Fudadin fell when 4 short of his fifty to leave the score on 98-5. Fudadin’s 46 included 3 fours and 3 sixes.
Mahadeo played an array of spanking shots and put together 61 for the 6th wicket in 11 overs with Hooper (23) before Newland got rid of Hooper.
Mahadeo, who reached the boundary 7 times and cleared it 3 times, found a useful ally in Ravi Narine (22) to share in a 52-run 8th wicket stand in just 5 overs to take RHTWSB past the 200 mark.
Albert Sinclair (2-34) supported Newland for the Cops who slipped to 47-5 as Hooper captured 4 wickets after being introduced with Police on 17-1.
Heyliger continued to bat attractively even as wickets fell regularly around him and Pereira snatched 3 quick wickets as Police slipped from 53-5 to 87-8.
Heyliger got solid support from Winston Rose (6) as he dominated a 45-run 9th wicket stand to keep the Lawmen in the hunt before Sinclair had Heyliger caught behind at 132-9.
According to the Berbice Cricket Board, a venue for the final, which is scheduled to commence at 09:30hrs, will be named today.
