Andrew 'Sixhead' Lewis (left) and Leon Moore go through their paces on the heavy bag during a training session yesterday.
The Andrew ‘Sixhead’ Lewis Boxing gym in Albouystown was a hive of activities yesterday afternoon as the man in whose honour the gym was erected sharpened his skills in preparation of the Rawle Frank encounter scheduled for a date in the first week of October.
Leon ‘Hurry Up’ Moore was also drenched in perspiration as he hammered away at the heavy bag. He is preparing for his September 26 bantamweight clash against Mauricio Pastrano at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall (CASH). Both boxers are operating under the guidance of coach Lennox ‘Cappell’ Daniels.
Daniels revealed that Lewis had opened camp about two weeks ago and is working himself into reasonable shape. He predicted that judging from Lewis’ application to the task the bout would be an unforgettable one. “Andrew is more focused than he has ever been,” the veteran coach said. “I like the fact that he is demonstrating the level of discipline necessary for a fight of this magnitude,” he continued.
When Kaieteur Sport arrived at the gym, both fighters were pounding away on the heavy bag eliciting approving nods from Daniels. Quizzed of his intentions Lewis admitted that Frank is indeed a great fighter that should not be underestimated. “This is going to be a big fight and while I would not offer a prediction right now, I am confident of victory,” Lewis said.
The fight between Moore and Pastrana also promises much. The Columbian boasts an impressive record of 35 fights. Twenty-four of his opponents were not around to hear the final bell. Pastrana last fought last month when he dropped a decision to Victor Fonseca. Earlier in his career, he also suffered a unanimous loss to Rafael Marques but stopped Manuel Jesus Herrera in the third stanza.
