Patterson says aim is to have three more soon
“This is actually belated. FIBA (International Basketball Federation) referees are surely a means toward development. You can’t compete at international tournaments if you don’t have FIBA referees. This is excellent!”

Those were the sentiments of the acting Guyana Amateur Basketball Federation (GABF) President, David Patterson yesterday after presenting FIBA referees’ licence to Lugard Mohan and Aubrey Younge.
Patterson was speaking with Kaieteur Sport following the presentation. He said the sign raises the bar in the sport locally and the objective is to have three more local referees gain accreditation as soon as possible.
“This will help the public to see the independence in officiating. We will look at how we could develop coaches and referees before we deal with table officials. The referees and coaches are two building blocks,” Patterson said.
The Haynes Basketball Foundation had confirmed that the former national and Caribbean All-Star point guard, Mohan and former player, Younge had passed the FIBA Officials Certification Clinic last month in Colorado, USA.
FIBA had informed the United States-based Foundation after it had written to inquire on the two officials’ status. The certification of Mohan and Younge raised Guyana’s pool of FIBA referees to three, including Sherwin Henry. (Edison Jefford)
