They just were eager to get it on after a few weeks break due to inclement weather and fans were really treated to some exciting and energetic football at the Camptown ground in Campbellville when the Courts Under-11 Pee Wee League resumed yesterday.
Home team Camptown, led by their Captain Jaleel Ferreira with a double, defeated Pele 3-0, Fruta Conquerors got past Riddim Squad 3-1 and Renaissance needled Santos 1-0. Thomas United and Uprising battled to a 1-1 tie in the day’s other encounter.
The score line in the Camptown/Pele match up does not suggest the closeness of the encounter as Pele never stopped attacking but missed numerous scoring opportunities. Sherwin Arthur, who will be celebrating his birthday today, sent Camptown into the lead in only the 1st minute while Ferreira added his in the 19th and 28th minute to seal his side’s win.
Defending champs Fruta Conquerors continued their fine form with another clinical win, this time over Riddim Squad who never found a rhythm. Hitting the back of the nets for the winners who sealed their win within a 5 minute span were Jermaine Corlette (10) along with brothers Ryan ‘Bum Bum’ and Simon Hackett in the 12th and 15th minute respectively. Kester Joseph netted Riddim squad’s consolation goal in the 35th minute.
Renaissance got their lone and winning goal from Jermaine Beckles in the 37th minute, 3 minutes before full time in a tight tussle in the 40-minute encounter.
The skillful looking Thomas United outfit took the lead through a Paul Solomon 15th minute effort to enjoy the lead at the half way point. But Uprising never gave up hope and responded in the 31st minute to take an even share of the spoils.
Play is expected to continue next Saturday.
