Kitty Market defeated Buxton Market on penalty kicks, while defending champions La Penitence opened the tournament on a winning note, by a walk over after Wales Market failed to show up when play in the Inter Market Power Stout Football Tournament commenced on Tuesday Aug 4 at the GFC ground.
The two teams played to a nil all draw during regulation and extra time forcing the game into a penalty shootout. Kitty Market scored 3 of their 4 tries whilst Buxton failed to register.
The other scheduled match for that day saw defending Champions La Penitence wining by a walk over after Wales Market failed to show up.
On Wednesday Aug 5 at the same venue, Plaisance Market edged out Parika Market 2-1 on the back of a brace by clothing stall holder, Dwayne Ali in the11th and 68th minutes, respectively while Devon Dash pulled one back for the Parika Market in the 67th minute.
The other scheduled game between Merriman’s Mall and Golden Grove was cancelled after both teams failed to show up.
Meanwhile, the tournament continues this evening with East Ruimveldt Market opposing Stewartville/Leonora Market starting at 18:00hrs, while Bourda Market and Ann’s Grove Market play each other in the feature attraction starting at 20:00hrs.
The tournament continues on next Tuesday with Vendors Arcade throwing down the gauntlet on Wismar Market, while Stabroek Market oppose New Amsterdam Market in the feature attraction.
Quarter-final action gets underway on Thursday 13th and continues on Sunday August 16.
The Semi-finals are scheduled for August 20 while the Grand Finale is set for Sunday August 23. All the games will be played on the Georgetown Football Club Ground.
The winners of the tournament cart off $150,000, while the 2nd, 3rd and 4th place finishers will receive $100,000, $75,000 and $50,000 respectively.
