Head of the Presidential Secretariat, Dr Roger Luncheon, yesterday told media operatives that the Police were on hunt to expose the intellectual authors behind the fire that destroyed the Ministry of Health. They are also behind the organization, he said.
Dr Luncheon also informed media operatives that the Guyana Police Force was seeking international assistance to locate the two persons that had escaped form the Providence Police Station given that it is of the belief that they had fled the jurisdiction. As it relates to the persons behind organising the blaze, the Minister of Home Affairs recently said that the fire that destroyed the Ministry of Health building was politically motivated.
He said that investigators have been able to establish that the act was a well orchestrated plan with a number of persons involved, some of whom are well known in the society and some who are underlings hired to perpetrate this act.
“But the intellectual authors of this act have been established. We know that persons were promised sums of money and then sent on errands to purchase bottles, to purchase channa and to purchase gasoline. There is incontrovertible evidence that would eventually be made public,” the Minister added.
The Police had arrested and subsequently released Former Chief Magistrate Juliet Holder-Allen, ACDA activists Archie Poole and Heston Bostwick all of whom have subsequently been released from custody.
Head of State Bharrat Jagdeo subsequently said that the four names that have been identified in the media and the persons charged for the fire at the Health Ministry is indeed the arsonists.
“We have found that the people who started the fire…we have found them because they have confessed through caution statements…they painted the picture.”
According to Jagdeo, the men who have confessed are known, given that their names and photographs have been made available to the public. Further, they have identified where they bought the gasoline, the bottles and the channa and this has been verified by the persons that made the sales.
Clayton Westford, 19, of Lot 7 West La Penitence; and Tedenna Bagot, 21, of 32 Second Street, Alexander Village were charged for the arson.
On the run are 31-year-old Kurt Thierens, called ‘Bage’, or ‘Glasses’, of Lot 102 Middle Walk, Buxton; and Colin Jones, 20, called ‘Bunny’, of 3 West La Penitence. Jagdeo said yesterday, during his press briefing, that the authorities knew the house in Meadow Brook where the incendiary device, namely the Molotov cocktails also called channa bombs, were manufactured.
The president also reported that the persons who made the bombs are known.
He says that two of the men confessed to being lookouts only but said that they were at the scene.
“They went into the building…they went through the door …they started the fire in the building.”
The President said, too, that they knew of the persons who recruited the arsonists and “how the recruitment took place.
