Leonard Sebochin, of West Coast Berbice, pleaded not guilty after he was read the charge of breaking and entry by Magistrate Priya Beharry. It is alleged that during the night of August 2, the defendant, who is handicapped (missing his left leg) allegedly broke into the house of Hassad Ali and stole a DVD player valued at $35,000 and a quantity of tools valued at $30,000.
The defendant told the court that he worked for the virtual complainant as a mechanic. He explained that Ali never paid him, and that he had gone that day to Ali’s home to ask for his payment. He claims that he was unsuccessful.
The Police Prosecutor told the court that the police received an anonymous tip about the break in. He further stated that the accused was caught climbing into Ali’s house and was subsequently arrested. The Prosecutor objected to bail on the grounds that the defendant might not attend the next court date. Bail was refused and Sebochin’s next court date would be October 14.
