The South Carolina All-Stars Ladies basketball team that was expected to tour Guyana at end of this month will now make the trip during September 18-22 as a result of their US National League Championship schedule.
This was related to this newspaper yesterday via the Haynes Basketball Foundation, who is the authorised agent of the Guyana Amateur Basketball Foundation (GABF) in the US. The foundation is based in New Jersey.
“The South Carolina All-Star Ladies team could not make the trip to Guyana in August because they won their region. They will be playing in the nationals in Orlando, Florida for their leagues national championship,” Haynes said.
Secretary of the Georgetown Amateur Basketball Association, Robert ‘Bobby’ Cadogan first told this newspaper of the team’s tour. He said that it was expected to coincide with Guyana’s preparation for the Inter-Guiana Games.
Cadogan had indicated that Guyana’s female team would have engaged the Lady All-Star side in preparatory games. The playing schedule of the teams now is unclear but the US side was confirmed for their first Guyana trip.
Tickets were purchased for the team and arrangements are ongoing to accommodate them in the best possible way. It was requested that Guyana provide the best female players for competition against the South Carolina team.
