A Linden resident was yesterday afternoon shot twice by police ranks after resisting arrest.
Mark Cyrus, 31, of 5031 Central Amelia’s Ward , Linden was rushed to the Georgetown Hospital around 17:00hrs yesterday, nursing two gunshot wounds to his right foot.
According to police sources, ranks went to the suspect’s home yesterday afternoon acting on information that he was “wanted”.
He allegedly attempted to rape a woman on Tuesday last, was shot at his home by Police ranks after he reportedly attacked them with a cutlass. According to reports, Cyrus after the rape attempt also stole several of her belongings.
Ranks rushed to the area yesterday morning, after the police received a tip off that Cyrus was at home.
Reports indicate that ranks surrounded Cyrus’s home and ordered him to surrender, but the man refused to comply. The Police then entered the man’s home where he allegedly attacked them with a cutlass.
During the confrontation Cyrus was shot in his leg. He was later taken to the Mackenzie Hospital Complex.
At the scene Police recovered two televisions, one DVD, a crowbar and a cell phone, all suspected to be stolen.
Ranks that were present during yesterday’s raid also unearthed an unlicensed firearm at the man’s home.
Cyrus has since been transferred to the Georgetown Public Hospital for surgery. Hospital officials said that Cyrus sustained massive bone damage.
