Dear Editor,
Eion Katchy’s 12 wickets against the Leeward Islands 1997 at Everest still remains the best match analysis by a Guyanese fast bowler at the Regional Under-19 Level.
Katchy’s performance bettered Port Mourant’s David Fingall match haul of 11 taken against the Windward Islands during the 1988 Northern Telecoms Regional Tournament in Barbados.
The first Guyanese fast bowler to capture 5 wickets in an innings at the Regional Under-19 level is DCC’s Charles Lloyd, the cousin of the legendary Clive Lloyd. The DCC Speedster captured 6 for 97 against Barbados at Kensington Oval during the 1972 Benson & Hedges Under-19 Tournament.
Club mate Roger Charles emulated Lloyd’s feat by snaring 5 for 28 against Barbados at Camp Ayanganna 1981.
GCC’s Lynden Fraser joined the list with 7 for 54 against Barbados 1984 in Barbados. Malteenoes Colwyn Cort was next with 5 for 56 against Jamaica at Everest 1985. Port Mourant’s David Fingall continued the proud tradition with 7 for 38 against the Windward Islands in Barbados 1988.
Rose Hall Town’s Shawn Grant rocked Barbados with a 5 wicket haul at Everest during the 1997 tournament in Guyana.
East Bank Eion Katchy followed with his record breaking performance against the Leeward Islands at the same venue in Guyana’s final match during the 1997 victorious campaign.
DCC’s Rayon Thomas became the first fast bowler from Essequibo to capture a 5 wicket haul for the Land of Many Water at the Regional Under-19 level when he wrecked the Leeward Islands during the 2000 Regional Under-19 Series at Uitvlugt Community Ground.
Malteenoes Jeremiah Harris added his name to the list during the 2001 tournament in Guyana by capturing a 5 haul against Barbados at Uitvlugt.
Royce Evans of DCC is the last Guyanese Paceman to capture 5 wickets in an innings at the Regional Under-19 level in Jamaica. He took 5 for 54 against Bermuda 2004.
Keon Joseph achieved the feat vs. Trinidad at Elleston Road, Kingston, Jamaica 2009 when he claimed 5 for 57.
