Environmental sustainability appears to be the single-most worrying challenge facing business and as such the Environmental Community Health Organization (ECHO) will hold a conference on Corporate Social Responsibility and Climate Change. Yesterday, the organisation stated that the financial impacts on companies are growing as customers, regulators, investors, and other stakeholders continue to press for improvements in corporate environmental performance and swift movement towards sustainability.
Corporations are paying more attention to the way they manufacture, package and dispose of their products.
There is greater emphasis both at the global and local level on corporate social responsibility.
According to ECHO, clearly with Guyana pushing towards a low carbon economy, there is need for greater education and awareness on the responsibility of businesses to the environment and wider society. As such, the objective of the conference which will be hosted in September is to heighten awareness and enlist the support of corporations and businesses in the struggle against climate change.
Topics for the conference will include corporate social responsibility – good economics or common sense -, environmental health and climate change.
The conference will draw on the knowledge of government officials, representatives of the private sector commission, professionals, and members of academia, environmentalists and community representatives.
It has great utility to corporations, businesses, government, regulatory bodies and other allied agencies, that are concerned with planning for and monitoring projects and activities, which affect the resources of natural environment, the health of the economy, and consequently, the general good of society.
This conference will be one in a series of activities that seek to raise public awareness, educate, and call stakeholders and all citizens to action against climate change.
At the end of the conference, participants should be more aware of the value of corporate social responsibility, have a greater appreciation for the health of the environment, take decisive action to make reduce corporate carbon trail in the environment, and push towards good environmental stewardship.
