Up to late yesterday afternoon villagers were still searching for the body of eight-year-old Keana Fraser who was pulled into the Atlantic Ocean by a huge wave.
Fraser, of Number 30 Village, West Coast Berbice, was pulled into the ocean in the vicinity of a sluice at Number 29 Village around 15:00 hours yesterday.
Reports reaching this newspaper stated that Fraser and four of her friends had gone to the area to do a ‘bush cook’, a favourite pastime during the august school holidays.
They then ventured towards the foreshore where a huge wave swept Fraser into the ocean.
A frantic effort was made to rescue her but it was unsuccessful.
An alarm was raised and several villagers rushed to the area to retrieve her body but their efforts too were unsuccessful.
