Woman found hanging

Police are investigating an apparent suicide which occurred yesterday afternoon at Cotton Tree, West Coast Berbice.
According to reports, Bibi Fazeela Hamid, who was said to be in her forties, was found hanging from a coconut tree around 13:00hrs yesterday afternoon.
Kaieteur News understands that the woman was seen earlier, drinking on her front steps with her husband.
The husband, who is now in police custody, reportedly retired to bed soon after, while his wife left their home to run an errand.
The husband later awoke and discovered that Hamid was missing.
He launched a searched for his wife after neighbours told him she was seen heading towards the back-dam.
According to reports, the husband went to the back-dam and saw his wife hanging from a small coconut tree. He immediately summoned his neighbours.
Kaieteur News also understands that Hamid had recently tried to sell a property, but the sale was thwarted after a petition was filed in the High Court.
After the High Court proceedings began, the woman began drinking heavily.
Police sources opined that this may have been the main cause for the hanging.
