City Mayor still awaiting copy of Inquiry Report

City Mayor Hamilton Green is refusing to offer his comments to the media on the recently presented Commissioner of Inquiry Report.
According to the Mayor, at the municipality’s statutory meeting yesterday, his decision not to comment is rooted in the fact that he has not been allowed to view the contents of the report which may contain recommendations that could significantly impact the operation of the municipality.
According to Mayor Green, he received an invitation to attend a forum at the Tower Hotel last Friday morning to witness the report via the Commission of Inquiry being presented to Minister of Local Government and Regional Development, Kellawan Lall.
According to the Mayor, the gathering at the forum was merely given the contextual framework of the report.
According to Green, both the Commissioner and the Minister made statements about the content of the report but noted that the disclosures were not lucid to allow him to reciprocate. He noted that the comments did not deal interestingly with some of the core issues which marked the genesis of the inquiry.
“I didn’t sense a specific reference to the report which we got last year. It could have been a typographical error.”
According to the Mayor, on the morning following the presentation of the report, the Commissioner requested that he (Green) and Deputy Mayor, Robert Williams, meet with him. The Deputy, he said, was unable to keep the appointment, leaving him to meet the Commissioner alone.
“It was a rather exhaustive meeting and I had hoped to have been in receipt of a copy of that report but to date we have not yet seen it.”
Supporting the Mayor’s concern, Councillor Fitzgerald Agard made the point that councillors should have a copy of the report in order to view its content, a notion to which the Mayor readily agreed.
Green also stated that his attempts to have a copy of the report from the Minister were met with a response of “soon” from Minister Lall.
Burrowes had told this newspaper that while he is aware that the Minister is studying the report, he could not say by when the Minister will complete the process.
He added, too, that although the report contains recommendations to improve the operations of the municipality, there is no guarantee that the government will accept the report in its entirety.
The City Mayor at a previous statutory meeting had spoken of his anxiety about the report. He revealed that he had inked a letter to the Minister.
According to the Mayor, in the letter which was copied to the Commissioner, he highlighted his expectations that before the proposed public exercise that the municipality be privy to the content of the report.
However, the Mayor has claimed that he has to date not had a response to the letter which was sent and delivered at least a week before the presentation of the report.
