Police are currently working on the theory that two of the suspects in the Ministry of Health fire who mysteriously disappeared from the Providence Police Station may have already fled the country.
Speaking to reporters yesterday, Police Commissioner Henry Greene, said that while the police have conducted searches for the men, Kurt Thierens called ‘Bage’ and ‘Glasses’, and Colin Jones, called ‘Bunny’, their efforts have turned up nothing.
According to the police, Thierens, is 31 years old. His addresses were given as Lot 102 Middle Walk, Buxton, East Coast Demerara; Lot 7 National Avenue, Triumph, ECD and Lot 219 Residential Area, Yarrowkabra, Soesdyke/Linden Highway.
Jones is 20 years old, thin built and 5’ 6″ tall with black hair. His address was given as Lot 3 West La Penitence, Georgetown.
“We have word that they may have skipped the country and we’re working on that right now,” the Commissioner said.
The two men were being held at the Providence Police Station lock-ups awaiting their day in court when they disappeared on July 27, last.
Investigators say they had obtained confession statements from both Thierens and Jones, who reportedly claimed that they were directly involved in the torching of the Ministry of Health buildings two weeks ago. The men had also provided investigators with information about the authors and planners of the activity, which led to millions of dollars in losses as a result of the fire.
The Commissioner said that although three persons have already appeared before the court on arson charges, the investigations are by no way complete.
“We’re still searching for one more person, who has been implicated in this matter. We’re searching for him actively. I cannot give you the name,” Greene told the media.
In addition to those charged, the police had also detained former Chief Magistrate Juliet Holder-Allen, Archie Poole and Heston Bostwick, all of whom were questioned and released on station bail.
“They were questioned in relation to some information we had.
The former Chief Magistrate’s vehicle has been detained pending further investigation into the matter,” the Police Commissioner stated.
Investigators had previously said that they had received information that Holder-Allen’s car was used to transport materials for the incendiary devices that were allegedly used to torch the Ministry of Health buildings.
