Guyana has been reduced to a comic book in the eyes of the world not by the horrendous indictments that have emerged from a New York court room from but from the unbelievable mediocrity that characterizes the responses of the Government of Guyana to those indictments. Can’t someone from among the PPP supporters in the Diaspora tell all the PPP leaders and all the senior Cabinet Ministers including the President to shut their mouths because whenever they open them they give the most appallingly asinine answers to the drama unfolding in New York?
We can begin with the ongoing explanation of Leslie Ramsammy. There is nothing wrong with saying that informant Vaughn does not0 like him and want to get him. But he makes himself appear foolish by refusing to answer why Vaughn would pick on the Minister of Health in a security controversy and not Ministers connected with the security portfolio. Dr. Ramsammy opens his mouth again and tells us he didn’t import the spy laptop.
He then challenges the head of the electronic company to supply proof. Why not shut your mouth. When the proof comes, you end up searching for more answers and the hole of shame gets bigger. So at the moment, we know from the lips of Dr. Ramsammy that Vaughn is out to frame him and a businessman from the UK who perhaps never heard about Guyana or where it is located has unjustly picked on him. It is possible that these people mistook Ramsammy from some hugely important international figure that they want to bring down?
When you want to see stupidity on display read the rebuff of the Guyana Government to the announcement in the New York court that the spy item was purchased by Dr. Ramsammy. Here is the Government’s position, I quote; “The main source of the information in the local media frenzy is Enrico Woolford, known for his anti-government journalism and reporting selectively on the ongoing trial in the USA.” No wonder people in and out of Guyana laugh at our ruling politicians. This is as comical as you can get. Why is Woolford the object of attack and not the US Government that subpoened Mr. Myers of the electronic store that sold the spy equipment?
In its press release, the Guyana Government should have attacked the US Justice Department for bringing the witness from the UK to testify. That witness made statements that can cause the Government in Georgetown to fall. What has Enrico Woolford to do with all of that? The answer is nothing. And if anyone thinks that Woolford is slanted in his reporting they are entitled to say that but it is not the bias of Woolford that is damaging the Government here, it is what the witnesses are saying.
We would hope to see another press release from GINA that expresses the Government’s attitude to what the US government is doing with the trial in New York. How can any government be so self-destructive in that it claims that there is an anti-government journalist slanting the coverage of a trial in New York that has implications for the Guyana Government but that government does not see it fit to send their own reporters so we here in Guyana can read about the aspects of the trial that Mr. Wolford leaves out and that paints another picture, one favourable to the Guyana Government. Really! Some people can be extremely incompetent.
Next there is the outburst by President Jagdeo; “Let Khan speak whatever he knows.” Who advises these people? Do they know anything about astute politics or the politics of finesse? They are getting burn all the time and refuse to take refuge in diplomatic semantics. Does President Jagdeo have access to the cooperation statement Khan signed and that prevented his trial? What will President Jagdeo do when Khan spills his guts and implicates the Guyana Government? There is only one answer to that – the hole of shame will get bigger and deeper.
The seniors in the Government are going to issue more silly statement making them look more foolish in the eyes of the world. Remember they said they didn’t know Khan, had no ongoing relationship with him? Remember they said they never bought the spy laptop? Are these people blind? Can’t they see witness after witness in the Simels’ trial is going to embolden the living nightmare that is eating away at the flesh of the PPP Government? The nightmare in New York has only just begun. There are more witnesses to come. There is Khan’s confession statement. The Guyana Government is set to fall.
