Once again, national race walk champion, Rudolph Mitchell has proven his class, out-walking a competitive field that included Jeremy Cornelius and Debidyal Harold to capture the Soesdyke/Coverden race walk event and push his unbeaten streak to 93, when the Cavaliers Sports and Tour Club (CSTC) staged that event on Sunday July 26 last.
Cornelius and Harold placed second and third, respectively while Michael Bradshaw trudged in fourth.
Donna Ramkissoon also continued her dominance, capturing the female title while Glayson Ralph walked away with the top prize in the junior category.
The race started at the Soesdyke/Coverden NDC office and Mitchell was all fire from the onset. He proceeded to the Soesdyke Primary School, with his adversaries in tow and returned to the starting point virtually unchallenged. For his efforts, Mitchell adds the Guyana Beverage Company’s trophy to his vast collection. Ramkissoon walked off with the Soesdyke/Coverden NDC trophy while Ralph took home the trophy donated by contractor, Narindra Latchman.
National Development Council Chairman, Leslie Glasgow started the race and later returned to present the prizes to the respective winners. He reiterated the health advantages accrued from participation in the sport even as he urged Guyanese of all vocations to become involved.
Meanwhile, the cream of the country’s race walkers would once again be in action this morning when the CSTC launches its activities to commemorate its 5th race walk month with a race that commences at the Prairie International Hotel, Coverden EBD.
The event would subsequently proceed to the Soesdyke Primary School for the finish. Once again, walkers would vie for trophies and other prizes donated by the corporate community.
