On Day 7, the penultimate day of the 2009 FINA World Championships, yesterday, Team Guyana participated in their last three events and turned in creditable performances.
The highlight of the day was Henk Lowe’s performance in the final event for Guyana at the Championships.
Lowe entered the 50m Backstroke with no entry time (NT), which placed him in the first of fifteen heats. He became the second swimmer to remind everyone of Guyana’s presence by winning his heat clocking a time of 31.53.
Noelle Smith entered the 50m Freestyle with a time of 31.04 which placed her in heat 3 of 18 heats.
Smith placed second of 9 swimmers in her heat with a time of 30.00.
In the next event of the morning, Smith swam the 50m Breaststroke, competing in the third of twelve heats and bettered her entry time of 42.00, finishing in 40.39.
The team leaves Rome tomorrow and are expected to arrive back home on Tuesday.
Guyana was represented by four swimmers at the championships, Henk Lowe, Fabian Binns, Niall Roberts and the lone female, Noelle Smith.
Coach of the team was Nicholas Fraser who also attended the Technical Congresses while Coleen Profitt-Aaron also attended as the Guyana Amateur Swimming Association’s representative.
